Eastbourne Skate Festivalat Eastbourne Extreme 2005
In its eighth year the well established Eastbourne Skate Festival has gone through a metamorphosis to emerge this summer as part of the Eastbourne Extreme Sports Festival. Held on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of July, over a large area of south coast seafront the festival now represents a diverse range of sports and activities. Windsurfing, rowing, hang gliding, paragliding, land yachting and kite surfing events, demonstrations and competitions will take place on both land and water. Alongside those attractions there will be an improved catering and retail village, fun fair, live bands, music stage and licensed bars. Amongst all this action the skating element of the festival will be stronger than ever and represent all elements of roller skating from recreational to dance, street, slalom, freestyle, sport and aggressive. With support from Eastbourne Council, The LondonSkate, RollerDisco London, Skate Patrol and Skatefresh, The Eastbourne Skate Association and London Skaters have put together an exciting and varied programme of skating events for all abilities and ages across the two days. Held in and around the Volley Ball and Tennis Courts on Royal Parade, The Skate Park on Prince William Parade, The Sovereign centre and Redoubt Fortress every one is invited to have a go with the emphasis on fun and participation. With support from Wheely Good Fun, an Eastbourne based skate and equipment hire company there will be free skate hire throughout the weekend as well as free instruction. Right on the sea front the Volley Ball and Tennis Courts on Royal Parade make up the main skating arenas with a packed schedule of events kicking off each morning at 10 a.m. The exciting programme for the main arenas over the two days includes;
Entry for competitions can be arranged on the day.(Aside from hockey, tournament already full) Timings and full programme for all events will be clearly posted and with slots for all ages and abilities, three skating arenas and free skate hire there will be something for every one. And the fun does not stop there. Once the main arenas close, late Saturday afternoon you can join all the fun of a fully marshalled street skate with the LondonSkate crew and Sound System . With a route designed for all levels of skaters and a carnival feeling we will take to the open roads. After rolling round some town and country the skate will return along the seafront to a right rocking roller disco in the wonderful Redoubt fortress. Hosted by the famous Roller Disco London, you can dance to the music of RDL’s regular DJs and see demonstrations by the countries coolest skate dancers. With licensed bar and plenty of room to strut your stuff this years disco promises to be an even bigger party than last year. Add to all that the other activities on offer at Eastbourne Extreme Sports Festival and it equates to a great weekend with something for all ages and levels. Getting there couldn’t be easier with regular trains to and from London Victoria as well as many locations around the south coast and Sussex. Drivers will find ample parking both in the town centre and around the front itself. Staying there is a real treat with numerous guest houses, B&B’s, hotels and of course camping for the outdoors types.
