Santa Skate 2005by StevieB
In December 2004 a germ of an idea to have some Christmas skating fun saw a hand picked group of Serpentine Rd regulars don Santa Suites and take to the streets of London for a street skate with a difference. The so called “Santa Skob” or Skate Mobbing was played out on the last Saturday before Christmas. Starting at the N1 shopping centre in Islington we skated a route through central London taking in all the major consumer areas, “Skobbing” indoor malls such as the Trocadero and Whiteleys to name but a few. The whole event was very light hearted (though it was heated in places where we came into contact with security people) as we spread festive cheer to the chilly streets of London.
The skate was a great success, so much so that we were inundated with requests to do it again this year. Who are we to ignore public opinion? So this year we will be taking Santa to the streets again. The skate takes place on Sunday the 18th Dec and will wind round a very similar route, accompanied by the LondonSkate sound system and a wicked Christmas mix up. In aid of the LondonSkate donations are set at £10 which includes your very own Santa suite which is yours to keep and will be followed by a right Christmas knees up at our favourite skaters pub, The Victoria. All money raised will be going to support next year's LondonSkate, upgrading the sound system and maintaining the summer long free skates. Tickets are available now, just watch out for Santa's Little Helpers in the Santa hats at coming skate events or call one of the numbers on the flyer. This will be the “Must Do” Street Skate of the year and not only will you have the time of your life but you will be helping the London Skate in continuing to bring you great free events next year. So get your skates on, book yourself a place, join the Ho Ho Hoing and have yourself a very merry Christmas time.
