Press release SkateFresh Holland Tour 2008

After a one-year break, SkateFresh is back with a new tour through skaters-paradise Holland! The tour is scheduled for June 9th to 15th, so there’s a good possibility the weather will be excellent, as was the case in the two previous years.

This year, we would like to show that Holland has more to offer than windmills, tulips and Amsterdam. For this reason the tour will be held in the lesser known but not any less beautiful southern part of the country. Participants will skate along the river Maas (Meuse in French) from the southernmost and oldest city of Maastricht to the most modern city of Rotterdam.

The scenery will be magnificent. The river is lined with castles, monasteries, walled towns and small villages with old churches. Some highlights will be the castles in Baarlo, the city of ‘s Hertogenbosch, the castle of Loevesteyn, the windmills of Kinderdijk and the Erasmusbrug in the centre of Rotterdam.

Holland has the largest network of cycle lanes in the world, is virtually flat and skating on the road is allowed. Because the country is so small, towns and villages are never far away from each other and the scenery changes all the time. This makes Holland perfect for long-distance skate tours.

The aim of the tour is to bring skaters from many countries together, so you will be able to meet fellow skaters with many different backgrounds and experiences. On the tour it is very easy to expand your group of friends across countries and languages. You will also learn about many other great events for skaters around the world, and you can be sure you’ll meet some familiar faces wherever you go!

As in previous years, you won’t find much luxury during this tour! The nights are spent on campgrounds, with everyone bringing their own tent. Luggage will be transported by truck, and all participants will be asked to help load and unload the luggage and to lend a hand while building the camp. A basic breakfast with coffee, tea and bread is included. You can take a lunch break in a restaurant along the route, and it’s optional to eat a basic dinner together at the campsite or to arrange your dinner yourself.

Because the costs of the tour are kept low, participation will cost only 200 Euros for six nights, including camping with breakfast, a Dutch tour guide who also looks after your bruises and blisters, a service van with basic snacks and drinks, travel by coach from the end of the tour in Rotterdam back to our departure point near Maastricht, and a T-shirt.

You can sign up for the tour from the 1st of February. For more information and to register please visit the website www.skatefresh.nl where you can also apply for the newsletter. You can also send an email to info@skatefresh.nl

We look forward to seeing you on the tour!
