WellChild - the UK's leading charity for sick children - is taking a team to Engadin, in Switzerland, to take part in the Engadin Ski Marathon and you could be part of that team.

What is the Engadin Ski Marathon?

An exciting event, held in a very beautiful part of the world, this is an annual 26-mile, cross-country ski race. Around 15,000 skiers take part, skiing across frozen lakes and through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Europe. The event is aimed at all levels of skier - non-skiers to proficient.

Learn to cross-country ski in 3 days and complete a marathon on the 4th. Sound like a challenge?

As you would expect, this can be done by a fit and competent skier, but we also know it can be done by complete novices, as demonstrated by our own staff and the team members from last year! As long as you have a base level of fitness, then we can teach you how to do it. Our instructors have skied in the British cross-country team and they will provide you with expert tuition over three training days. On race day, you head off at a pace that suits you - fast or as leisurely as you like - so it's an event for anyone, whatever your level of experience.

Why do it?

For fun; for the hell of it; as a personal challenge - but also to raise money for a great cause. We would like to invite you to join the WellChild team for the ski of a lifetime.

Who are WellChild?

As the UK's leading charity for sick children, WellChild is committed to saving the lives of all sick children, whatever their illness, through pioneering medical research, treatment and prevention strategies. Since 1977, WellChild has been at the forefront of paediatric medical research, covering a wide range of diseases. Our remit is unrestricted, so we have one of the broadest portfolios for medical research in the UK. All our projects are assessed by our Advisory Committee, made up of the UK's leading paediatric practitioners.

What does WellChild provide?

• Training in situ at Engadin with a qualified cross-country ski instructor,
• Pre race seminar so that people can meet other members of the team,
• Fundraising help and advice
• We also make all the travel arrangements.

What will it cost?

We are asking skiers to raise £1,000 in sponsorship and to pay the travel and accommodation costs of £375 - which is subsidized and represents excellent value for a 5-day skiing trip. This covers flights, transfers, half-board accommodation, ski hire, ski tuition and race entry.
