Street Hockey Report

by Mykel Ziolo

Imagine this - you are standing on a train with five hockey sticks (unbound because you still haven't gotten tape), a heavy bag of skates and pads, and massive mayonnaise-y and mozzarella sandwich. Your sticks are propped up against the doors, which haven't opened in ages so you are feeling pretty secure - and you open up your sandwich.

You are also incredibly exhausted, and a couple of drinks have made you a little more relaxed than you may otherwise be.

All of a sudden the train comes to a halt and the platform has changed sides! You whip round to grab you sticks, pick up your bag and move. In the meantime you have unwittingly thrown your (very mayonnaise-y) sandwiches into the face of some woman trying to board the train. But you don't realize this until after the doors have closed, your sandwich is on the floor and everyone in the carriage is silently staring at you.

Hockey was great last night. We had loyalists without skates who couldn't stay way come along, brilliant players who took it really slow with the beginners to help us improve, and beginners who have really improved, and me.

Same again next week - 6.30 pm Thursday near Albert Memorial.
