Eddy Matzger workshop in London

June 4th - 6th 2004

What is it?

  • Two and a half days of intensive personal tuition from Eddy himself, one of the best speedskaters in the world.  That's around 20 hours of instruction.
  • You don't need to be fit, and you don't need to be fast to take part.  The workshop is about improving YOUR skating ability, and concentrates on things such as technique, drills, etc.  You'll probably feel a little sore and tired the couple of days after the workshop, but it's a good feeling.
  • All ages and all abilities are welcomed.
  • You'll get the chance to learn new technique and improve your current skills.

As you can see from the photos and links on this page, most workshop attendees are ordinary inline skaters who simply want to improve.  You'll learn all kinds of proper technique, such as pushing through the heel, skating the D-way, the double push, etc.

This page shows the schedule of a sample workshop.

Some more details on what you can expect.

The workshops are owned and run by Eddy himself.  I went on the workshop last year, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.  Even better, my skating improved tremendously as a result and I'm still improving now, 9 months later, because of the skills and drills I learnt on that workshop.

When?

June 6th to 8th, 2004.

What others have said:

Here are some quotes from happy workshop graduates.  You can see the full list here on this page at skatecentral.com, or take a read through the Eddy Matzger London 2003 workshop topic in our forums where the 2003 attendees are highly complimentary.

I did my first cross-over.....It was truly a defining moment for me.

...now I have lots more confidence and BALANCE on skates....my fear of falling has diminished quite a bit...

... I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated getting the chance to meet you and learn from you. It was a fantastic weekend and made a huge impact on my skating.

... Please don't even think that your workshops are not worth vastly more than you charge. Your talent, knowledge, patience, teaching ability, and personal attention are invaluable. I cant even begin to measure the benefits I have taken away from your workshops. Not to mention they were probably the most fun I have ever had.

...now I expend about 60% of the energy I used to for the same or better speed.

How do I sign up?

Visit skatecentral.com here on their sign-up page.  Be aware that these workshops are usually well-attended and so you should pay your deposit as soon as possible to secure your place.

Click here - skatecentral.com registration page.

Click here for the paypal payment page.  There are other payment methods - see the link above for money order, cheque, or credit card payments.  Please note all payments should go to Eddy himself via his website - LondonSkaters.com can't take payments.

You need to sign up and pay a deposit of 50% to secure your place.  Last year we had 17 participants, and are expecting the workshop to have rather more people this year, perhaps even to be oversubscribed.  Assuming sufficient people sign up, Barrie Hartman will also be coming along.  Barrie is another superb skater and instructor, and one of the very few ladies to beat 5 hours on the 86 mile Athens to Atlanta race.

What does it cost?

This year European workshops will cost a flat rate of US$225, which is pretty cheap for a workshop of this length and an instructor of Eddy's calibre.  Bear in mind that there is normally a goody bag to every participant from Eddy and his sponsors which is worth most of the fee.  Last year this included a set of 10 Elite race wheels, 20 TWINCAM ILQ9 bearings, t-shirt, quality skating socks, etc.  The same contents aren't guaranteed this year, but you're unlikely to go away disappointed.  Lastly this is a great time to be paying in US dollars, given the great exchange rate at the moment (Feb 2004).
