Many new skaters seem to struggle with practicing on their own, and I can
understand why. The park is often an intimidating place to come to with so
many good skaters around, and so many spectators, and skating is hard enough
just on its own. It's also intended as a stepping stone towards the more
difficult challenges of the weekly streetskates, and the
Freestyle Club and
Speed Team.
What is the Practice Club?
The club is intended to help you practice with other skaters and to make
progressing great deal less challenging. It's open to anyone and is
simply a way of getting together with others in order to share skating
knowledge, and to help each other progress.
It's run jointly by Mark (skateinstructor.com)
and Mike (londonskaters.com).
Aims and goals
- To have a regular weekly meeting point and time with the essence being
friendly and sociable encouragement.
- Spend time working on skate skills given that skating is a highly
technique dependent sport.
- There will usually be an instructor around so you can ask questions.
Practice club isn't a lesson though.
- To help each other by watching and correcting where necessary.
Don't forget to sandwich any criticism between two healthy doses of praise (attr:
Bill Begg).
- Membership cost - free.
When and where?
The club will meet at the
Albert Memorial. Click here for a map at 16.30 each Saturday from
April 11th - September 5th in 2009.
The club is weather dependent, I would not recommend learning or practicing
difficult skills in the wet as it gets slippery. Notifications aren't sent
out if it's raining...
