I always enjoy being taught by Mike - his excellent technique is an inspiration and his boundless enthusiasm is a great motivator. He is a very good instructor that I would recommend to anyone looking to improve their skating.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the 4 blading lessons I had signed up for, all I had to go on was the friendly South African voice on the other end of the phone and what activity I had previously witnessed by the Serpentine in Hyde Park. But whatever the case, it was clear that if I was to continue skating for leisure and pleasure I would need to get a few tricks sorted, particularly stopping correctly and efficiently, turning, crossing rough or unusual surfaces like curbs and grass edges, and importantly, getting into the toilet block (and back out again) safely.
To my surprise all of the above and more was achieved with the expert teaching of Mike van Erp of London Skaters. I was also taught the basics of backward skating, crossovers, parallel and lunge turns, etc.
Mike's teaching style was very clear and easy to follow, and with a casual, fun demeanour, it was kind of like practising with a friend, only he was a million times better than me at everything! As a result of my lessons, i acquired an increased confidence in my ability to skate and now love getting out and about whenever I can. In fact with that behind me, my next challenge will be the London Street Skate.

I think there are three things that make Mike such a good instructor:
- He truly understands the prerequisite skills that are needed to learn a
new skill
- He knows loads of practice drills for improving your skills
- He can communicate what you need to know in the way that's easiest for
you to understand.
This makes learning with him fun because you don't get frustrated by trying
something before you have the right foundation, but it also makes learning fast
because the pieces go together so well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to
anyone who wants to learn to skate, and skate well.

Just a quick note to say thank-you so much for teaching us
how to skate. Your understanding of skating and the way you explained each part
of the movement made learning so much easier, and we really appreciated your
patience and your sense of humour!
