London Skaters News and PhotosOld NewsSaturday 30th SeptemberI finally found some spare time to do the review of Laura Stamm's Power Skating - this is an excellent book for improving hockey skating skills. I'm short on hockey experience, but the benefits of this book should be immediately evident to anyone who's read it. I've also added Amazon.co.uk links to the two reviews currently up. I've also started a new articles section, and put up the first, being thoughts on rolling resistance and bearings, together with web links to others' knowledge on this subject. Thanks Shaun and Vish for starting up this discussion! Sunday 24th SeptemberPosted two new photos on the Hyde Park page, and a review of Dawn Irwin's Inline Skating book by Steven. My ankle is still damaged and I'm so frustrated at not being able to skate, especially this weekend when the weather is so good. :-(. I couldn't even play inline hockey last night, and Andrew managed to score two goals, really winding me up! Visit this week's featured site - http://www.skatehog.com (OK, I forgot the last two weeks). This site has a huge bunch of photos and information about the skating scene in Eastbourne, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the site. Next week they have a skater's BBQ on the beach - I'm planning to go so click here to email me if you want to come. Wednesday 20th SeptemberVish took some great photos during the summer, which are posted here. Tuesday 19th SeptemberI've updated several areas of the web - the links page, a page of detail on the more commonly used skate shops, with contact information and maps, and a skate lights page. Sunday 17th SeptemberPut up some more Hyde Park photos here. The first few show why we should be wearing helmets after an accident and lucky escape yesterday. We went to an inline hockey club last night and played with them indoors here in the Beckenham Leisure Center. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the club. Saturday 16th SeptemberIt's Jason's last day skating today - sadly he leaves to go home to New Zealand tomorrow. Weather's looking cool but dry so most likely will see you in the Park... We passed 2000 hits last night, waaaay cool. Friday 15th SeptemberI updated the Salomon review, and posted another review of my previous skates - the K2 Cirrus. Who's skating tomorrow? John has organized a street skate starting from the beach at 17.00 tomorrow, if it's not raining, that is. We're going to be in the Park from about 12.00 onwards, but plan to go ice skating at the Queensway Ice Bowl if it's raining. The weather is looking up for tomorrow so hopefully it will be dry, but this is England... Thursday 14th SeptemberThe Wednesday Night Skate photos are up now here. We had an excellent time - this was a real party skate. I took the easy route via the pub on a boat - skating was interesting after that, and even more so after visiting the Swan! Monday 11th SeptemberPosted a review of Salomon TR9 recreational skates. Also updated a few photos on the Hyde Park page. Sunday 10th SeptemberI got some photos of Simon and Isaiah jumping over a rubbish bin across at Kensington Gardens - some really cool jumps! I can't believe how switched-off some of the onlookers there were, just wandering into the lines of slalom cones and in the way of the jumpers. That just sucks, doesn't it? Anyway, here are the photos. We went ice-skating this morning at Queensway Ice Bowl, and had great fun. I can't do that going round and round stuff for too long though, especially when the weather was so awesome this weekend! Jason and I did some side surfing and you should have seen the faces of the ice stewards - I bet they were thinking "blasted inliners". (Well, I wasn't really side-surfing properly as I can only do a big circle at the moment). We passed 1000 hits today - that's amazing for two weeks worth, considering I started this just to share some photos and skating information amongst a few friends - that's you! Please email me whomever saw the counter at 1000. Thanks for all your support, everyone. Thursday 7th September - Updated21:00 Photos are up now - check here. Email me if you want the full sized picture for yourself. 07:00 Anyone want some of those funky skate lights that go along the truck of your skates? Contact Sean Jennings here - he's selling them. Lights for skating at night are a good thing. An alternative to these skate lights is to go to a bicycle shop and look at their clip on LEDs. Photos - quite a few came out well, and I'll be posting them as soon as I get a chance to do the processing. Even digital images direct from the camera need some work. I'll be trying a new slightly smaller format this week to speed downloads and to help with those on smaller screens. Tuesday 5th SeptemberFeatured site of the week is: SkateFAQ.com. This is a great site for information about inline skating. It's packed full of information about techniques, skate maintenance, tutorials, etc., and has been around since 1991. Some UK skaters posted information on different places to skate at http://www.skatefaq.com/skate.5.5.html#UK. I plan to go and try out some of these parks myself as I live close to a few. Sunday 3rd SeptemberBack to Hyde Park for the day. When we were in Holland I bought a few cheap hockey sticks to hack around with, so we spent most of Sunday playing with these. I recommend playing hockey as it really helps to develop your skating skills. I'll put up a page with more details, photos, and hopefully some hockey contacts in the next week or two. Saturday 2nd SeptemberStarted a new web page design using frames. Do you like the new format? I think that many of the pictures (at 800x600) might be too large to see on the average browser, so I'm considering making them smaller (perhaps 640x480). This should also reduce load times - please let me know if you think this is a good idea. We also went on a private street skate to go and visit some family about 5 miles away. This was a great skate and really good fun as we'd not skated through this area before. Skating back was nearly a disaster as it rained, but luckily we made it back between showers.
