Wednesday 29th MayPeter Maisey went along to Goodwood for the British Roller Skating Grand Prix (a charity marathon). He wrote a short article and took these photos. Monday 27th MaySome photos from last Wednesday's London Skate, taken by Steven Wilber. Friday 24th MayNew skate review posted - of the Salomon TR Vitesse 02, by Ilan Vardi. Thursday 23rd MayNew skate review posted - of the Rollerblade Lightning 05 recreational/fitness inline skate. Wednesday 22nd MayAlthough the weather started out kind of damp, things are looking drier for tonight's London Skate. John Maxwell reviewed his Timex Ironman GPS here, using it for measuring speed and distance travelled whilst skating. Monday 20th MayDon't forget that Blake is holding his fitness skating clinic this Sunday as usual in Hyde Park. It's an excellent way to improve your technique and learn to skate faster, as the clinic concentrates on your technique and not on how fit you are or how fast you can skate. Also, the British Rollerskating Grand Prix is being held at Goodwood Motor circuit, also on Sunday. Sunday 19th MayPosted photos from Steven Wilber and Mark Caswell-Daniels from the London Skate on Wednesday 16th May. Anyone with a digital camera willing to take photos of the FNS to publish here? If so, please contact me. Wednesday 15th MayMark Caswell-Daniels passed on the following photos, also of last Wednesday's big London skate. Friday 10th MaySteven Wilber also took some excellent photos on Wednesday, and kindly passed them to LondonSkaters.com for everyone to enjoy. They're posted here. Thursday 9th MayPosted a few photos and story from last night's Salomon sponsored London Skate here. Ooohhh yes, was that a brilliant skate and party or what? Wednesday 8th MayCar incident on the London Skate, 1st May 2002. Did anyone witness a red Ford Sierra in an incident on this streetskate? If you did, please contact me here, and I'll forward your details to Anna, who was allegedly knocked over by the car. Anna is particularly interested in getting in touch with the gentleman who took down the car's registration number. I'm really excited about the big London Skate tonight, and the Salomon party afterward. The weather is dry right now, although overcast/foggy. Both the BBC Weather service and the Met Office are predicting the weather will clear and some sun will show, with 19 degrees Celsius. Sure hope that happens, but hopefully it will at least stay dry. Just remember, if it's raining just go straight to Spitalfields for the roller disco. Monday 6th MayThe big London Skate and Salomon party is only two days away! Contrary to previous reports, the roller disco party isn't at Bagley's. Here's the summary from the LondonSkate update email last week:
Wednesday MAY 8TH, 7.30pm, start point Hyde Park Serpentine, end point Spitalfields Market. The weather forecast for Wednesday is looking somewhat OK at overcast, but no rain yet. Of course weather prediction beyond 12 or 24 hours into the future is not very accurate at all any more. If it is raining head straight for Spitalfields Market - Liverpool Street station is closest, with Algate East not too far either. I've posted some more hockey photos, this time at Battersea Youth Centre. I don't do so many hockey photos any more because I'm generally too busy playing, so this time Cat, Dan's girlfriend, took the pictures. Saturday 4th MayI recently noticed that Zephyr Inline Skate Tours changed their skate manufacturer association from Salomon to K2. It turns out this isn't the first change, and I got the following response from the owner. I also found this additional story about skating in the Netherlands on one of these Zephyr Tours. Thursday 2nd MayHere's a short article and a few photos of Blake's fitness skating session in the Park last Sunday. I've got a wicked bruise on my side today after I took a fast slap shot from a ball in the ribs last night. I don't know why I turned sideways - it's the worst thing to do because all the protection is on your front. I normally don't turn aside from shots. :) Wednesday 1st MayThe Eastbourne Skate Patrol website has recently launched, and looks like the organisation will be helping out with Skate 2002. Sure look forward to seeing the London Skate Patrol get more active in the Park this summer. Skate 2002 starts on Friday July 26th and continues through on the 27th and 28th. The big starting event is their own huge Friday Night Skate in Eastbourne, which looks like it will be well worth attending. Tuesday 30th AprilTook some photos playing hockey at Bishop's Park in Fulham back from Sunday 21st. Saturday 27th AprilJust a reminder that Blake is running his free fitness skating clinic this Sunday, weather permitting. If you want to learn how to skate fast and efficiently with a technically correct stroke, it's worth going along. Thursday 25th AprilNew skate review - Bob Cardone's review of his new pair of the K2 Mod GT inline skate 2002 model is posted here. Sounds like everyone had a real good time on the London Skate last night! Wednesday 24th AprilGood thing the weather cleared from this morning, at least for those going on the London Skate tonight! Sure hope that this weather carries on through for the FNS on Friday. No streetskating for me this week as I'm going to Plumstead to play some skater hockey tonight, although I should make it to the London Skate for the big Salomon party on May 8th. Hope to see some of you there... Heh, just spotted that the new LondonSkate website is up and running. Very nice job, Vish and Simon! I just spent a couple of hours chilling out in the small park near my home, enjoying the sun and half wishing I'd gone to Hyde Park and taken my skates instead. Thanks to all those who mailed in feedback on the new design - much appreciated. Opera browser users should be just about normal now, and there should only be a few remaining formatting problems for some Netscape versions left over. I'm working on it. Tuesday 23rd AprilWell, here's the new site design, graphics and colours courtesy of Mark Caswell-Daniels. I think you'll agree it looks pretty professional. Thanks a lot, Mark! I spent quite a bit of time integrating the design elements and sorting out formatting and other issues on the 160 odd pages of the site, so my head is really spinning at the end of a week's worth of effort. :) If you have any feedback about the design or find any errors, please contact either myself or Mark on the Contacts page. This week seems to be the week for new websites/designs in the London skating community. Skatersguide.com is back with a new look, as professional as ever, and the BoredSkaters.com forum is finally back up. The first London Skate happens again tomorrow night, so don't forget to pack your skates tonight. :) This is the third year of this, the official London street skate, and things are set to get bigger and better than ever before. The London Skate website still hasn't been updated, but a new version is promised by the start of next week - Vish, move your butt! Hehehehe, just kidding, I do appreciate how much effort is required to keep a busy site updated. Wednesday 17th AprilI've completed reviewing the 2002 Salomon TR Mg Elite 2 skates, posted here. As always, I'd appreciate any comments you may have. Monday 15th AprilThere's just over a week to go to the first London Skate of this year. The first skate is on Wednesday April 24th, and in preparation for this exciting event, I spoke with Simon Hill-Norton about the history of the skate. Also, here's a link to the Salomon flyer for the big skate and party on Wednesday 8th May. Saturday 13th April 2002Barry Bridges is running the British Roller Skating Grand Prix at Goodwood Motor Circuit on 26th May. This worthwhile charity event is open to both skaters and spectators. Thursday 11th AprilI received an email from Zephyr Inline skate tours, and posted it here together with some pictures, and links to other people's stories on their experiences with this skate company. Wednesday 10th AprilNew skate review posted! I've reviewed a pair of Salomon X-TR Wave inline skates. Stefan Zerwas sent these photos of he and friends jumping over a bin in Hyde Park, and generally just knocking around. Thursday 4th AprilUpdate - the big Salomon party has been delayed one week until 8th May 2002 because of the protests due on 1st May. Don't forget the official London Skate starts again on Wednesday April 24th! This session is a warm up for the big Salomon party two weeks later on May 8th - that's Party Time with Salomon directly after the skate! In fact I believe the skate goes straight to the party, maybe I better book the next day off work to recover. ;-> I've added some contact details to the skate schools page for Naomi Grigg and Steven Runyeard, who have both joined SkateFresh as instructors. Any other instructors out there who teach in London, U.K., and want their details added? The heel brake is one of those perennial discussion points that came up not so long ago, so I wrote an article on the pros and cons of using or loosing the heel brake. Tuesday 2nd AprilAwesome Easter weekend! If spring is as good as this, I sure hope summer keeps up the promise. I spent Friday playing hockey in the park and had a really great time. I got an email from Sebastien Laffargue about the videos on his French inline skating site. The site is in English, and has some simply amazing video clips. There are tons of videos to download and most are well worth the download time. Awesome skaters!
