Heelys Force Skate Shoe.

Miles Juelfs

I went to a local large Sporting Goods chain Sports Authority, where mixed in with the Inline skates and quads were the Heelys brand shoes.

  1. They only carried one model, but this was ok due to the fact that these much resembled the shoes that I commonly wear for everyday use. Second I was not interested in the grinding shoes.
  2. After looking online I found that they were fairly priced.
  3. They cost only a little more than a good pair of trainers (shoes, not skates).

What you get in the box:

  • One pair of Heelys Skate shoes.
  • One pair of Heelys fats style polyurethane (PU) wheels completely assembled with 8mm steel axels and ABEC 3 688 Micro bearings.
  • One set of rubber plugs to put in place when not using the wheels.
  • One tool for removing the plugs.

The wheels were initially inside a sealed package and attached to the shoes by a nylon band. As I had gone to the store to try these out I proceeded to take out my pocket knife and cut the wheels out of they’re package and inserted them in the proper place in the rear of the shoe. I then started to heel around the store. It was extremely easy to catch on; it is just like doing a two heel manual on skates only with the center of gravity somewhat more forward. I found the shoes themselves to be very comfortable. Since the wheels can be taken out and put into your pocket for conventional walking then popped in when you like I thought they would be a cool toy in the Mall or when accompanying my wife shopping.

In my opinion as long as you are not going to try to make these some sort of serious skating tool they will be just great fun. While they do not make for any serious skating over time it may be possible to skate backward as well as forward and even do some tricks just as the guys and gals on the website.
