The SkateKeeper - a transport and storage solutionDecember 2003
The product is a lightweight ABS and steel cored skate holder. Its purpose is to make the storage of your skates simple and tidy, and also to make it easier to transport a pair of skates by keeping them together on a frame with attached handle. The sample I received was well made and weighs in at 0.84kg, rather less than an average inline skate. The handle revolves so the SkateKeeper can be hung or carried as appropriate. ![]() Use of the skate keeper
Your skates can now easily be picked up in one hand and carried, which is easier than trying to hold a pair of skates on their own. For transport purposes this can be considered as an alternative to skate bags such as the Transpack Delta Lite reviewed here, although of course there's no extra bag carry capacity. The skate keeper does have two loops just below the handle, which are designed to take protective gear such as helmets and wrist/knee guards. For storage purposes, the skate keeper stands free on an oblong base so can easily be placed neatly in a cupboard. It's also designed to be hung from a cupboard clothing rail or similar, and more than one skate keeper can be joined together to store several pairs of skates in a skate keeper chain. This has got to be better than the common and untidy pile of skates many skaters own.
The SkateKeeper can hold both inline and ice skates in most sizes, and although it will work with quads, the clip at the bottom of the SkateKeeper doesn't hold the wider wheelbase of quads quite as well as it does inlines. ConclusionI think the storage use of this product is super and could easily use a number of skate keepers to help me keep my gear tidy, but I probably wouldn't use it often to transport my skates since my needs don't match this use. That's no reflection on the skate keeper, but is because I use public transport, and would have nowhere to put the skate keeper whilst I'm skating in Hyde Park, and I need a bag anyway to hold my gear for the day. The situation would probably change were I to use my car more.
