Skate Lights

Because so many people have expressed an interest in the skate lights sold by Sean and Chris, I've posted this information on their behalf.  Please note that I don't make any money out of this, and this information is here simply for those who are interested.

To help you find Sean and Chris at the Park, here is a photo of them:

My Review

I really like these lights - they look really funky and will definitely ensure that you get noticed at night.

While they are not particularly bright during the day, they are very visible at night.  They are not, however, quite as bright as some of the new high-tech bicycle LEDs.  Being LEDs they are only good for showing other people that you exist, and not for lighting the way, in spite of the clear lens-like front end.

Fitting them to your skates is pretty easy given the supplied kit.  One mistake I made was to skate with the lights removed, leaving the plastic mounting pieces in place.  As a result of doing this I broke two of my mounts, and had to mount one light using a cable tie.  My fault...

Another minor problem I discovered was that when skating very deep crossovers, I start to hit the lights and had to take them off for this kind of skating.  Same goes for hockey.

In spite of these minor issues these are great lights and will get you plenty of attention, from skaters, cars, and pedestrians.

Text from Manufacturer (quoted):

"The only lighting device designed, developed, tested and patented exclusively for in-line skates.

They come in five colours;- Red, Green, Purple, Amber and Pink.

They have three 'on' states, slow flash, fast flash and permanently on. These modes can be cycled through using a push-button switch on the side of each light.

The light sources are very high intensity LED's which are low-power and do not burn-out like light-bulbs.

They come with 4 mounts, 2 for each light-tube, and these are usually attached over the two middle wheels. They are attached to the skate by unscrewing the axle screw from your skate and threading it through a hole in the mount before rescrewing back into position. Once the light mounts are in place the 'light-tubes' can be slid into position.

(There is a diagram and instructions on the back of the packaging on how to fit the mounts to your skates, change batteries, etc.)

The lights come with batteries with a life of up to 80 hours. Replacing batteries simply involves opening the battery-compartment lid on the side of the light; the light does not need to be removed from the skate.

The light-tube illuminates and lenses are moulded into the tube-casing at the front and at the back to increase the intensity of the light and to provide 360 degree visibility at distances up to 300 meters.

The light-tube is made from a high quality polycarbonate making them virtually unbreakable and is water
resistant."
