Skating trip to Brighton
A bunch of us arranged to meet in Hove, where Grand Avenue meets the
promenade, at 14:00 on Saturday 12th August 2000. This is about a half
mile further west from the derelict Hove pier, and thus much further west still
than the Brighton pier. The Hove end tends to be a little less crowded
than the Brighton end and has better skating surfaces, so this is generally
where most Brighton skaters tend to stay.

Jason jumping a wall - note that he's
jumping uphill towards us. This was well to the west of Hove. |
 |
Removing Andries's brake at the windsurfing
school by the lagoon. |
 |
Jumping off a wall on the way back to Hove.
I was really lucky to get this shot, as my Olympus C2500L has a slight
delay in taking the shot on auto, so I had to time it carefully. |

Side surfing on the promenade near Hove, by
Grand Avenue. |

Time for a rest! Left to right, Mike, Jason, and Angus. |

Toe walking time - Adam here. |

Stair riding near Grand Avenue (actually the
meeting point for the skate trip). This
was Jason's first attempts at stairs, and he got it right almost
immediately.
Backwards is reputedly much easier than forwards for some strange
reason.

Roller soccer - this was excellent fun,
although it got a little fast and rough for some pedestrians on the
Promenade. We were playing 3 on 3. Some woman gave Mike a heap of trouble,
even though Mike was just
sitting quietly on the stairs minding his own business. She could
so easily have directly asked us players to take it
easy when her mother walked past! |

Dinner afterwards, the end of a glorious day
of fun with our friends. (Andries and Angus in the photo here). |

Lovely pizza! |
